In human services work, case notes are critical. They capture important details from client interactions, visits, and services, and sometimes take time to complete. If your browser crashes, your internet drops, or you accidentally close a note before saving, valuable information can be lost. To help protect your work, Casebook now includes an Autosave feature for notes. This enhancement is designed to give you peace of mind while you work, making sure your progress isn’t lost while you’re documenting.
What You Can Expect
Autosave runs automatically every 60 seconds when you're editing a note, as long as changes have been made.
-
It saves all major note fields, including:
-
Note type
-
People involved
-
Method of contact
-
Start and end date/time
-
Subject
-
Note content
-
Attachments
-
-
You’ll see a “Last saved by [Name] at [Time]” message update during your session.
-
Manual saving is still required to officially publish the note and make it visible to others.
If There's an Issue
If a connection issue or session timeout prevents an auto-save, you'll see a clear message in the note window. This gives you a chance to copy your work, reconnect, and save.
If you close the note window (click “X”) before autosave runs (60 seconds) and you haven’t manually clicked “Save”, your note will be lost.
We recommend saving manually before exiting the note or stepping away, just to be safe.
Good to Know
- Autosave occurs 60 seconds after each change
- To save final changes any time, click "Save" when you're done typing
- To keep sensitive notes private while you are typing, set Permissions
- To avoid editing conflicts, only one person should edit a note at a time
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I still need to save my note when I'm done?
A: Auto-save stores your changes every minute as long as you're connected. If you lose connection, Casebook will alert you so you can copy your work, reconnect, and save.
Q: If a user accidentally clicks the “X” to close the note window before 60 seconds have passed, is the note erased permanently?
A: Yes, if the user hasn’t manually clicked “Save” and auto-save hasn’t triggered yet (which happens every 60 seconds), the note will be lost. We recommend saving manually if you're stepping away or closing the window before the auto-save has had a chance to run.
A: No, auto-save will be turned on automatically.
